THE IMPORTANCE OF MORNING ROUTINES
Morning Routines are a great way to seize control of your day from the jump. Keep reading for a few tips to get started on making your morning work for your benefit.
To establish a morning routine, there are a few things that you need to do. Firstly, you must identify how much sleep you need. Establishing a morning routine is not worth it if you are going to through your alarms because you didn’t get enough sleep. Second, think of something that energizes you. By doing something that energizes you, you will start the day with a well-needed boost and shake off the grogginess of the morning. Finally, identify what time you usually wake up and wake up 10-15 minutes before. Once you make this a habit, you will be thankful for it as unlikely as it may sound now. Here is a sample 15 minute morning routine that may help you feel more motivated!
3 Minutes: Write in a Journal About Your Dreams-If you cannot write in a physical journal, your notes app will do. The important thing to note here is that the more time that passes between when your dream happens and when you wake up, the less likely you are to remember it. Writing it down immediately stimulates your brain while also giving you a reason not to roll over and go back to sleep.
5 Minutes: Yoga- Now that your mind is stimulated, stimulate your body. There are plenty of five minute yoga flows on YouTube that can help you feel more in tune with your body before you even leave your bedroom. Finishing a five minute flow is also a quick way to kick-start your day with a feeling of accomplishment.
2 Minutes: Make Your Bed- Making your bed is another quick and easy way to instill a feeling of accomplishment in your day. Rather than explain this to you, I will link a speech given by Navy Seal Admiral McRaven to college students on the psychological benefits of making your bed. CLICK HERE TO WATCH
5 Minutes: Take a Morning Shower- Even if you took a shower the night before, taking a shower is a great way to clear your mind. I’ve heard so many people say that they do their best thinking in the shower, and it isn’t a surprise. When we shower, we are focused on one task that we have (hopefully) been performing all of our lives. It becomes automatic. Therefore, so does our thought stream. Showering can be an almost meditative process if we let it be, and it is a great way to start your morning.
Setting a morning routine and sticking to it adds regiment, accomplishment, mindfulness, and exercise. By allowing ourselves to adhere to a morning routine, we demonstrate control over our day. Rather than waking up and scrolling, try this routine and let us know how it goes! And as always, STAY VALID!
